To Hell and Back Again - Episode 4

There is a very fine line between success and failure. The slightest nudge can send you plummeting to the depths of despair at the disappointment of yet another broken dream. Or riding high on the crest of a wave and transport you to ever higher heights. It is with those thoughts in mind that this intrepid dream chaser stepped off the precipice and plunged into the exhilarating and utterly petrifying world of business.
In the last instalment I had just been rejected by the couple at the cafĂ© and was left penniless and with no prospects what so ever. So let’s dive into the next episode to see what happened next.

June 2014
The morning after did not bring any relief from the depression I felt. But as always I plastered on my “positive face” and acted like the world was my oyster. I did my usual and sat outside with a cup of tea wondering how I could have been so stupid as to think that I could just get up one day and start making money. What was I thinking? Just because I was in love with shortbread cookies it did not mean anyone else was. The cold reality of not being able to pay my loans and bills slapped me in the face yet again and I continued to chastise myself for being such a horse’s ass.

I was saved from my own mental beat-down by a WhatsApp message on my phone. A friend of mine wanted to know if fancied going out for a coffee. HA! Fat chance! Not unless I could sell my ****** to pay for the coffee. My friend asked me what was wrong and I relayed the whole sad tale.

An hour later I was on my way to meet my friend, she insisted I get out of the house and allow her to buy me a coffee. I went even though I knew I would be the worse company ever. Turns out she was right; I did feel a little better after the coffee and idle chit chat. Focusing on something else for a while helped distract me from my own train wreck of a life.

Eventually my friend had to return to work. I decided to stay at the coffee shop a little while longer as I really was not ready to go home and put back on my brave face. I sat looking around the coffee and shop and my eyes casually rested on bunch of jars that were lining the coffee counter. Upon closer inspection I realised they contained various types of cookies and the last container on the shelf contained shortbread cookies.

OMG! They sell shortbread cookies! Why the hell didn’t I think of that? There are dozens of coffee shops here surely one of them would like to buy my cookies? Well I took off like a greyhound at a racetrack. When I got home I sat down with a note pad and the phone book and started to make a list of coffee shops.

My plan was simple I would take a sample of my cookies to the first 5 coffee shops on my list and pray that at least one of them would say yes.
